When something is wrong
The failures worth recognising, and what each one actually means.
Sorted by what you saw rather than by what went wrong, because the first is what you have.
The mod
There is no Fragments button on the Multiplayer screen
The mod is not loaded. In order of likelihood:
- The profile is Fabric rather than NeoForge. There is no Fabric build.
- The jar went into a different instance from the one you launched.
- The game was already running when you copied the file in. Mods are read at startup.
- The Minecraft version is not 1.21.1.
Mods I downloaded keep disappearing
A launcher that manages its instances, CurseForge in particular, can remove files it did not put there when it next reconciles the instance. Install those mods through the launcher instead. See packs and mods.
Getting in
It says I am not on the whitelist
The link worked and the world does not know you yet. The host adds your exact Minecraft name, spelled the way you spell it, and can do it before you try again.
It says the link is invalid
- A word is wrong. Paste it rather than retyping, and ask for it again if you only have it from memory.
- The host rotated the link, which stops the old one immediately.
It says my account is still being verified
The game had not finished proving who you are to Minecraft when you pressed Join. Wait a few seconds and press it again.
I was given a code and it will not work
Ask for the world’s link instead, the line starting with vbf:. An invite code is redeemed with /vbf join from inside a Fragment you are already in, and it grants membership rather than showing you where a world is.
Making a world
I promoted a world and now I cannot find it
It left the Singleplayer list on purpose, because it is a multiplayer world now, and nothing adds it to your Multiplayer list for you. Two ways back:
- The world’s page on the dashboard has its link under Settings. Copy that into Add Server.
- If you are still inside the world,
/vbf sharelinkprints it, and clicking the line copies it.
I ticked Share as Fragment and no world appeared on the dashboard
If you were at your world cap, the game can fall back to making an ordinary single-player world without saying so. Free a slot by deleting a world you no longer want, then promote the one you just made from the Singleplayer list.
Nothing happened when I pressed Promote
Success is silent. The tooltip changes to Already shared as Fragment and nothing else appears, so if the tooltip has not changed and the world is still listed, it did not work. The usual reasons are your cap, or us not answering.
Linking
The chat link will not open my browser
Type the page in yourself with the code from the second line on the end: fragments.vagabonds.studio/link?code=YOUR-CODE. Some launchers refuse to open links out of chat.
The pairing code expired
They are deliberately short-lived. Run /vbf link again and confirm it while the clock on the page is still running.
It says the account is linked to a different Minecraft user
One Minecraft account belongs to one Fragments account. Unlink on the account page first, then link the new one.
While playing
The world kept running while I was in the pause menu
It does that whenever somebody else is connected, in the same way as opening a world to your local network. There is no setting for it.
Everything went choppy and then a message said authority was handed away
Your connection was saturated while you were simulating, so that work moved to a peer to stop everybody stuttering. The message itself names the command that takes it back:
/vbf-dev authority resume[VBF] Your connection was saturated holding world authority — handed it to a peer to reduce lag.
I was disconnected and told a member is unreachable
Two people who cannot find a route to each other cannot share a world, so one of them has to leave. Rejoining usually works, and a different network almost always does.
Something is stuck where I am standing
/vbf reseat re-runs the session rules for the region you are in. It is the one recovery lever worth knowing, and it is safe to run.
Between sessions
We came back and lost an evening’s work
A world is missing from my dashboard
Check the Trash tab. Deleted worlds sit there for twenty-four hours with a countdown, and restoring one is a button. After that they are purged.
Telling us
Report from inside the game where you can. It carries the details we would otherwise have to ask for.
/vbf bug-report log the world would not load after the pack updated[VBF] bug report filed: R-4K2P
[VBF] attached: 0.9.13 · neoforge · win · 24 mods
- Quote the reference it gives you. It is how we find your report again.
/vbf statusis worth pasting in for anything about connections or performance.- The same form is on the dashboard under Feedback, and it does not need you to be in a world.
